WARNING!!! This is a little graphic!! Yesterday afternoon when I let Katie my min. pin inside I noticed she has a very large tumor on the left of her bottom. With a closer look it appeared to be a clogged anal gland. (For those that don't know dogs have small glands around their anus that occassionally can get clogged and need to be drained by a professional or brave pet owner (not Me!))
I called the vet and they said I could bring her down right away. Once we got there we waited a short time before the Vet came in, assessed her, and decided that she needed SURGERY right away because she had developed an anal gland abcess that could rupture at any moment. He had me sign consents, say goodbye, and scooped her up and took her to the back. All of this in about 15min. total from the time we walked through the door. Needless to say I stood there stunned definately not expecting all of that. Jake was with me and began to cry because they took KaKa away. I attempted to calm him down but before I knew it I was crying too! The last time I had a dog that needed surgery it was my Tinker. As you know she did not make it out of surgery. So needless to say I began to panic. Jake and I went to my mom and dads to regroup. As usual they were very supportive and they helped to calm us both down.
Katie made it through surgery fine and I was able to pick her up today. She has a huge rectal incision, drain (That is draining),a doggie cone on her head, antibiotics, and pain medication. Needless to say she is corraled in the pac n play for now. As for us we are happy she is home and on the mend!! Of course all of this happens before family camp so she may be joining us in San Diego. We will see. :)

OOOHHH. Anything in that region, you just have to feel for her. Poor baby. Thanks for the science behind anal abscess, I feel so much smarter now. Not necessarily in a good way. Hmmm.
Poor little min pin. I am aware of the anal gland, Ben's pug squirts out stinky smells and then they know it's time to get a clean. :) I feel bad for your experince but am glad to know she's doing well!
Poor katie!!!
YIKES!!!!
I hope all is well, now!
